Phil Rosenthal goes to Italy and the City of Canals to experience a gondola ride and to taste the amazing Italian food.


1. Cantine del Vino Già Schiavi

A wine shop with floor to ceiling of bottles, as well as an owner who has been making chichetti for over 60 years. Chichetti are little bites of food on bread, almost like Spanish tapas.

2. All'Arco

Another small no-frills shop specializing in chichetti and tramezzini (small finger sandwiches), with traditional and gourmet takes on the classics.

Codfish, Speck (smoked ham or salami), Salmon

Grilled cheese with salami and eggplant

3. Boutique del Gelato

Small shop in an alley serving Italy's favorite dessert - gelato.

Ordered: Chocolate, stracciatella, and blackberry gelato

4. Trattoria Vini Da Arturo

A popular place with Hollywood celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Barbara Streisand. Phil revists this trattoria from two years ago where he had an unforgettable pork chop. A small homey place with tons of history and incredible food.

Ordered: Breaded and fried pork chop with white vinegar

5. Torrefazione Cannaregio

Small coffee roaster in Venice, which is the original home of coffee when it was first introduced to Italy

6. Ristorante Al Covo

What Phil calls perhaps the best restaurant in Venice, is around a 10 minute walk from the Piazza San Marco. Serving fresh seafood and wonderful Italian food.

Ordered: Mix of boiled baby shrimp and mantis shrimp

1. Gondola Ride

A very tourist attraction, but a must-do if you visit Venice for the experience. Phil learns how to row on a gondola through the canals of the city.

2. Piazza San Marco

The heart of the city, St.Mark's square contains the famous St.Mark's Basilica and is a place for tourists to take photographs or to enjoy the restaurants and shops in the square and the many alleys leading to it.

3. Ponte di Rialto

Historic landmark of Venice, Rialto Bridge is the oldest spanning the Grand Canal and connects the districts of San Marco and San Polo. Restaurants and shops surround the area and along the Canal.
